East Union’s rebuilding boys golf team suffered a heartbreaking loss at Oakdale Golf & Country Club on Thursday, falling to host Oakdale High, 250-251.

Sophomore Trevor Baum paced the Lancers (1-1) with a 44, but he was their only player to break 50. Oakdale’s Nathan Lute was medalist with a 6-over 42.

“After today we have a lot of work to do,” East Union coach Dennis Wells said. “With one senior and the rest of them sophomores I knew it was going to be tough, but not this tough.”

East Union is the VOL’s reigning champion and winners five of the last seven titles but graduated nearly its entire starting lineup, which includes state qualifier Will Brink (now at UC Davis). Eric Lewis, who carded a 51 Thursday, is the lone senior, and another returner is ineligible.

Sonora 219, Manteca 250

Justin Morrish of Manteca (0-2) was low medalist with a 41 on Manteca Park Golf Course’s par-37 front nine. Branden Ramirez checked in with a 47 and Augustus LaDue a 50.

Billy Kiriluk and Spencer Morse each shot a 42 for Sonora.

Trans-Valley League
