STOCKTON — Everybody’s favorite ogre is coming to the stage.

The award-winning St. Mary’s High School Theatre department is presenting the first local production of Shrek the Musical, March 14-16 and 20-23, 2014 at the Long Theatre, University of the Pacific.

Full of all-new songs, great dancing, breathtaking scenery and awesome special effects, Shrek the Musical is part romance, part twisted fairy tale and all irreverent fun for everyone.

The show is being directed by Kevin Costello, with choreography by Evelyn Barney and Nina Thiel, musical direction by Josh Landin (featuring a live orchestra with local professional musicians), set design by Brian Johnson, lighting by Rand Enlow, sound by Christopher “C.J.” Martin, make-up by Maria Lagana-Sales and Elizabeth Costello, and costumes by Dianne Bowe and Jennifer Gordon.

“We are pulling out all the stops for this production: sets, lighting, costumes and make-up unlike we’ve ever done before. Bring the whole family because this is one you won’t want to miss,” noted director Costello.

There will be 8 shows total: Thursday, Friday and Saturday performances are at 7:30 p.m., with matinees on Saturday March 22 and on both Sundays at 2 p.m. There is also a special fundraiser reception prior to the show on Saturday, March 15, beginning at 5 p.m. Patrons are advised to purchase tickets ahead of time online at, or at the St. Mary’s High School main office, 5648 N. El Dorado Street in Stockton during regular business hours. General admission prices are $15 for adults, $12.50 for seniors, and $10.00 for students and children.
