Sonora’s statement was made loud and clear at Manteca Park Golf Course on Thursday.

Behind Billy Kiriluk’s 1-under 36, the Wildcats bested defending Valley Oak League champion East Union 205-230 and remain the only undefeated team in the conference.

“They shot a good score, but I thought we’d be at about 215-220 today,” said East Union coach Dennis Wells. “I’m not happy with the score, of course, but by the end of the season we’ll be under 210 no problem.”

Michael Lozano led East Union (2-2) with a 43. Eric Lewis contributed a 45, Clayton Dorland and Ryan Lee both penciled in a 47, and Trevor Baum and Manuel Telles each turned in a 48.

Sonora’s top-five players all shot 45 or better. Spencer Morse followed the low medalist with an even 37. Ethan Farwell, Brandon Kealan and Sam Mays shot 43, 44 and 45, respectively. Kiriluk is the VOL’s top returning player after his runner-up finish in the Sac-Joaquin Section Division IV Tournament a year ago.

Sierra 208, Lathrop 252

Sierra’s Chris Schmitz finished 6-over 38 for medalist honors at French Camp Golf Course. Matt Rose (40), Blake Settlemoir (42), Chuck Good (42) and Isaac Gutierrez (46) followed for the Timberwolves (3-1).

Geoff Fallon paced the Spartans (0-4) with a 46. Andres Munoz shot a personal best 48. Sam Fallon (51), Nick Berdt (53) and Matt Fallon (54) made up the rest of the team score.

Oakdale 224, Manteca 269

Nathan Lute of Oakdale topped all scorers with a 36 at Oakdale Golf & Country Club.

Manteca’s Justin Morrish and Brandon Ramirez were part of a three-way tie for second place with a 44. The Buffaloes fell to 1-3 in the VOL.
