Ripon senior Mackenzie Gauden threw a complete game, three-hit shutout with seven strikeouts and no walks on Thursday afternoon.

The Indians pounded out 11 hits and improved to 6-0-1 in the preseason following a 14-0 victory over St. Joseph Notre Dame in Alameda.

“We just came out hitting line drive after line drive after line drive,” Ripon head coach Robert Vernon said. “They hit the ball hard.”

Ripon took advantage of five errors but earned much of what it got.

The Indians scored two in the first and one in the second, followed by a nine-run top of the third inning that made it 12-0.

“The third inning pretty much took the wind out of their sails,” Vernon said.

Ripon junior Darian Vandermaaten went 2 of 3 with three RBIs and two stolen bases and Tiana Chacon finished 2 of 4 with a double, three runs and a pair of RBIs.

Ripon senior Taylor Vernon went 2 of 3 with a double and two RBI and Danielle Sperry had a double off the bench and Mikaela Ferreira finished 2 of 4.

The Indians will play today at 4:15 p.m. on the road against Pioneer and then will have a doubleheader on Saturday against Vallejo at home at 1:45 p.m., and 4 p.m. They will open Trans Valley League play next Tuesday at home against Escalon at 4 p.m.
