Site work started this week for the new McDonald’s at the corner of Yosemite and Commerce avenues just down the street from the current location.

The design will reflect that of the McDonald’s on Airport Way at Daniels Street. There will be no playground.

The location is designed to help it compete more effectively with In-n-Out Burgers and Carl’s Jr. for freeway business.

That means of course there is a good chance someone will open up a restaurant in the current McDonald’s when it is vacated.

The only controversial thing about the new Mikey D’s is the ability of westbound Yosemite Avenue traffic to make an unrestricted left turn into the McDonald’s parking lot. It was questioned by some as a safety and traffic flow issue when the new restaurant location was proposed but the final decision by the city was to take a wait and see attitude.

Guests at the new McDonald’s location won’t have a problem knowing what time it is. Crews erecting a cell tower on the southwest corner of Yosemite and Commerce are expected to install three clock faces on the tower later this month.
