The Ripon High softball team will take some momentum going into Tuesday’s Trans-Valley League opener against Escalon.

The Indians, coming off their first loss of the season, twice trounced visiting Vallejo in a doubleheader this past Saturday, winning 12-0 and 14-1. Neither game lasted past the fifth inning.

Ripon (8-1-1) was dealt a 10-4 defeat by defending Sac-Joaquin Section Division III champion Pioneer on Friday.

Mackenzie Gauden struck out 14 in the two wins Saturday. She twirled a five-inning, one-hitter in Game 2. Taylor Jaquez logged an inning in the first game, pitching a perfect fifth. She and Gauden combined for a two-hitter.

Triniece Leskey was the only Apache to belt a hit in each game. Ripon, on the other hand, totaled 31. The tone was set in a seven-run first inning in Game 1. Seven Indians had at least two hits in the contest.

Leadoff Darian Vandermaaten padded her season stats, going 6 for 7 with three of them going for doubles. In Game 2 alone, she plated three runs and drove in three others.

Seniors Tiana Chacon (3 for 5, four runs), Taylor Vernon (4 for 6, four runs, four RBIs) and Melanie Wilkerson (4 for 6, three runs) were also in on the hit parade. Freshman Mikaela Ferreira was 4 for 6 with four RBIs.
