Ripon freshman goalkeeper Amanda Evans got to play the field during Wednesday’s Trans Valley League girls soccer matchup against Modesto Christian.

Evans was moved from the net to the midfield, where she recorded a hat trick in just 21 minutes as the Indians (1-1-1 TVL, 4-2-2 overall) cruised past the Crusaders, 6-0.

“She’s a skilled player,” Ripon head coach Jamie DeBruyn said. “She fights for every ball out there. She can finish with both left and right, and she has the speed for the varsity level.”

Ripon sophomore Hailey Monroe scored in the 16th minute to make it 3-0 and Evans completed her hat trick to make it 4-0 going into the half.

In the second half, Ripon Zaire Davis put the Crusaders (0-2, 0-4) in a 5-0 hole after finding the back of the cage in the 53rd minute.

Another one of the Indians’ underclassmen, sophomore Haley Simmons, made up the final score after netting her first high school goal in minute No. 73. Sara Souza was credited with the assist on the goal for Simmons, which she drilled from 15 yards out.

“We’ve been struggling to score,” DeBruyn said. “But we worked on building the balls up and taking quality shots on goal. We need to figure that out and get some consistency up front. I was happy with all six of our goals. They were all quality goals.”

Ripon will visit Riverbank Friday at 4 p.m., followed by a road game against Orestimba-Newman next Wednesday at 4 p.m. The Indians won’t be back at home till April 9 against Hughson.
