one.Charter Academy of Visual & Performing Arts is prepping to present its 3rd Annual Hoops for Heart youth event to be held Thursday, April 3, at 800 Douglas Road in Stockton from 10 a.m. to noon.  Celebrating the joys of a healthy lifestyle, one.Charter students are developing hours of fun for community youth to play active games, discover the workings of the human body, snack on healthy treats, and participate in a variety of heart themed lessons and art projects. The event is free and open to the public.

The Hoops for Heart event is a great and proactive way to deliver the important messages of the American Heart Association (AHA) while helping to raise funds to support its wide reaching mission to create healthier lives, free of cardiovascular diseases. The AHA developed this program to increase students’ knowledge of how their hearts work and the best way to take care of them and to honor those in our community who have been affected by heart disease and stroke.

Since 1978, Jump Rope for Heart and Hoops For Heart have raised more than $885 million for research and educational programs.

School classes are encouraged to attend. Community youngsters not engaged in school activities but ready to burn some energy are welcome to participate as well. All donations and proceeds of the event will be donated to the American Heart Association.

In only its fourth academic year, one.Charter has become a magnet for youth pursuing an alternative to their 7th through 12th grade education. Focusing on arts integration throughout the curriculum, the school is also creating deep ties to its local and county community. As a site of the San Joaquin County Office of Education, one.Charter is a free public charter school that is always accepting applications from interested students.
