With some of its veterans a bit off their game Wednesday, Ripon looked to its newer players to step up against rival Ripon Christian in a nonleague match at Spring Creek Golf & Country Club.

Anthony Matthews was one of those difference makers, as he finished 5-over 41 in Ripon’s 221-233 victory.

“We had some struggles today, but our bottom guys really picked up the slack today,” Ripon coach Chris Musseman said. “Matthews had his best round all year.”

Kyle Colyn of Ripon Christian was low medalist with a 38. Ripon’s Nick Sharp turned in the second best score (40), while RC’s Andrew Manes tied with Matthews for third place.

Michael Miller (46) Cole Gonzales (46) and Robbie Figeroid (52) also scored for Ripon, which improved to 6-0 and returns to Trans-Valley League action today against visiting Hughson.

Jesse DeRousse (44), Austin Alger (52) and Vance Sipma (58) were Ripon Christian’s other contributors. The Knights play host to Le Grand.
