Buffaloes record season-best score

Manteca High’s boys golf team recorded its best round of the Valley Oak League season with its 236-285 win over Weston Ranch on the par-36 front nine of Van Buskirk Golf Course.

Leading the charge was medalist Justin Morrish with a 37. Donal Hinkston and Gus LaDue added 44s, Brandon Ramirez shot a 50 and Ray Gallardo checked in with a 61.

Manteca improved to 4-7 in league and faces Sierra today at Manteca Park Golf Course.

Darren Carrillo and Javier Gomez each scored a 47 to pace the Cougars. Jimmy Sekhorn finished with a 60 and Frank Thao a 61.

Sonora 206, Sierra 223

A solid score for the Timberwolves (7-4) was not good enough on their home course against VOL-leading Sonora.

Chris Schmitz topped all Sierra players with a 41 and was followed by Matt Rose’s 42. Blake Settlemoir, Isaac Gutierrez and Chuck Good finished in45, 47 and 48 strokes, respectively.

Modesto Christian 234

The Indians (7-0, 8-0 overall) put together an impressive round on the par-35 Modesto Municipal Golf Course.

Nick Sharp was low medalist with a 36, and Nathan Suender contributed a 39. Cole Gonzales (42), Michael Miller (43) and Anthony Matthews (43) also put up respectable numbers. Robbie Figeroid carded the throw-away score of 45,

“Our bottom guys are really stepping up and are doing it at the right time,” Ripon coach Chris Musseman said. “Robbie is still playing hurt (neck) and it showed today.”

Kyle Colyn was lights out with his 2-under-29 effort at Jack Tone Golf Course.

Jesse DeRousse finished at even par, while Andrew Manes walked off the course at two over. Vance Sipma and Austin Alger contributed with a 37 and 41, respectively.

Frosh softball

East Union 18, Atwater 5

Ally Graham hit 3 for 4 as the Pages rolled to their 10th straight victory to start the season.

Isabel Carmen and Janika Gomes added two hits apiece.
