Ripon Unified is in the process of finding names for two facilities.

The district will seek community input on names for the Ripon Continuation High School and the Ripon High track at the renovated Stouffer Field.

The naming of the first-year continuation site and the track must be in accordance to board policy, stating that “the name (must) honor individuals, living or deceased, and entities that have made outstanding contributions, including financial contributions, to the school community, or has statewide, national, or worldwide significance.

“It may also reflect the geographic area in which the school or building is located.”

Prior to this year, RUSD was without a continuation site. Last year, the school board approved the application for the program, in turn, addressing the need for those students at RHS who may be  experiencing difficulties in remaining on track for graduation or fallen behind in their credits.

The track, meanwhile, is part of the Ripon Community Athletic Foundation under the leadership of Stephanie and Vince Hobbs.

This non-profit organization is working to make possible the all-weather surface track.

Not too long ago, RCAF received $300,000 to go towards the effort from an anonymous donor.

Name suggestions can be emailed to kcoleman@sjcoe.net.

Those submitting entries should address “Ripon Continuation High School name” or “Ripon HS track name” in the suggestion box.

Suggestions will be taken through April 18.

The naming committee is scheduled to make recommendations at the May school board meeting.
