Manteca Transit ‘shopaholic’ route debuts

Manteca Transit’s newest bus route debuting Monday could easily be dubbed “the shopaholic line.”

Route 3 starts at Moffat and Main – the future transit station site – and heads north to Kmart on Northgate Drive. It makes its way down Union Road hitting Manteca Marketplace, and then stopping at Stadium Retail Center, The Promenade Shops at Orchard Valley, and then stops across from the Mission Ridge Shopping Center anchored by Wal-Mart.

The new route marks the first time scheduled service has been extended south of the Highway 120 Bypass. The route was added after ridership surveys showed the stops to the city’s two newest shopping centers was in high demand.

Route 2 – primarily an east-west route – has been altered as well to take in Stadium Retail Center and Orchard Valley Just like Route 3, it stops at Manteca’s both movie complexes – Manteca Marketplace Cinema and Kerasotes Showplace Theater.

Route 1 is primarily a north-south route that covers primarily points north of Yosemite Avenue.

The routes all run on hour-long cycles. It is timed so they all reach the transfer point at Moffat and Main two to four minutes before the hour.

Fixed route buses run from 6 to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday, There is no service Saturday or Sunday. There is also no service on New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, or Christmas Day.

Saturday service is available through general public Dial-a-Ride by calling 239-9236. Regular Dial-a-Ride service for the disabled is available Monday through Friday.

Fixed-route fares are $1 for adults, 75 cents for youth ages 6 to 18, free for children 5 or under when accompanied by adult, and 50 cents for seniors or the disabled.

Monthly passes for adults are $35, for students and youth it is $28, and for seniors or the disabled it is $28 a month.
