Coming off two disappointing losses to Hughson, Ripon rebounded nicely Wednesday with a 9-1 thumping of visiting Modesto Christian.

Caleb Rogers and Trent Murphy were both 3 for 4 and combined for half of the Indians’ 12 hits. They helped Ripon (3-2 Trans-Valley League, 6-6-1 overall) take a 5-0 lead through two innings, as Murphy knocked in a pair with a single in the first and Rogers smashed a two-run triple in the second.

Rogers was also the winning pitcher. He scattered nine hits, struck out nine, walked none and gave up an unearned run in his six innings of work. Brandon Scott closed it out with a perfect seventh inning.

Leadoff hitter Michael Ysit added a two-run homer in the fifth when the Indians plated the rest of their runs. Jarred Andrews and Josh Clark (2 for 3, two runs) each added run-scoring knocks in the inning. Luke Robison reached in all four of his plate appearances, walking three times, scoring twice and belting a hit.

Zack Schott drove in Blake Avant in the top of the sixth for Modesto Christian’s lone run. The Crusaders fell to 0-4 in league, 3-7 overall.
