BRENTWOOD — The Weston Ranch Cougars got another strong effort from sophomore Jazmin Strane, who led a 47-43 victory over the Amador Valley Dons of Pleasanton Tuesday in second-round action of the 10th Annual West Coast Jamboree at Liberty High.

Strane led the Cougars with 16 points and guard Timnesha Wilson landed in double-digits with 14 as Weston Ranch bounced back with a solid performance after a less-than-stellar effort in the tournament’s Diamond Division opener, where it was drubbed by Vanden, 72-27.

“We played well tonight,” Weston Ranch head coach Chris Bauer said. “We played a lot better than we did the past game. We kind of stalled out in the middle and they went on a run, but we were able to come back and finish well.”

The Cougars outscored the Dons 30-20 over the final two periods, giving Weston Ranch a chance to close out one of the area’s premier tournaments with consecutive victories. Courtney Duran added eight in the win.

Weston Ranch (7-2) will take on the winner of the Clovis-Turlock Christian contest at 1 p.m.

Ripon 55, Foothill 53
Kendra Contente found herself in foul trouble early, but found a way to impact the outcome of the game with a momentum-stealing 3-pointer late in regulation to help the Indians win in consolation action of the Coral Division.

Laure Feddersen led Ripon (6-5) with 13 points and post-mate Rachel Rodriguez added 11, giving the Indians a solid post presence that proved to be too tough for Foothill to handle.

“I have to give a lot of credit to our post players,” Ripon head coach George Contente said. “Between Feddersen and Rodriguez playing so strong inside, it opened up a lot of things for us.

“Everybody contributed, we had three players in double figures and nearly everybody scored.”

Paulina Ceja finished with 10 points to reach double-digits, while teammates Sereena Hertel and Contente chipped in seven and five points, respectively.

The Indians will try and close out the jamboree on a high note, meeting up with Clayton Valley of Concord at 1 p.m. for both clubs’ tournament finale.

RIPON — Kelsey Tillema accounted for nearly a third of the Knights’ scoring with 12 points and nine rebounds, leading RC to the championship round of its own tournament.

The difference Tuesday was free throws. Ripon Christian converted 16 of its 20 opportunities, while Hilmar finished 9-of-26 from the stripe.
