Josh Clark fittingly scored the deciding run on a dropped third strike in the top of the seventh inning, as Ripon avoided an upset at Modesto Christian with a 7-4 victory Friday.

The two teams combined for as many hits as they did errors with six apiece.

Caleb Rogers drove two insurance runs after the Indians (4-2 Trans-Valley League, 7-6-1 overall) took the lead for good.  Winning pitcher Brandon Scott Threw two hitless innings in relief, walking none while striking out five. Modesto Christian (0-5, 3-8) went down in order in the bottom half of the final frame on just 10 pitches. Scott and starter Trent Murphy combined for a two-hitter.

The Crusaders wasted a dominant pitching performance from Robert Garcia, who fanned 14 and gave up two hits over 6 1/3 innings. Only one of the five runs he surrendered was earned.
