EDITOR’S NOTE: Susan McCreath has been selected to participate in the Year of You, a fitness challenge hosted by The Manteca Bulletin and CORE Athletic Performance. McCreath is keeping a weekly journal, highlighting the strides and struggles of her fitness journey. These are her thoughts and feelings shared with you.

Day 79

Monday morning means back to the work grind, but it also means that I am eating my prepared food and eating on a schedule. When I first started this journey a half cup of oatmeal seemed so small and I would eat it so fast … like I hadn’t seen food all night. Now, it is kind of funny how long it takes me to finish and oftentimes I struggle to finish the last bites. I tell myself that I don’t have to finish the bowl, but I still have that chipmunk mentality of I better store it because I only get so much food!

Day 80

Another good day of eating and another good workout tonight. Tonight was the first time I have been able to hold my chin up over a bar for 10 seconds. Granted I counted super-fast (OK, I counted by 2s), but I made it to 10! My next goal will be to actually pull myself up and not have to cheat by standing on a bench.

Day 81

Have you ever just had one of those days at work and when you get home there are just so many things that need to be done that you decide that you would be better off mentally and physically to blow off your workout? I try to convince myself that working out will make me feel better, but all that paperwork and laundry convinces me otherwise.

Day 82

It is so nice when people start commenting on how they can tell a difference in your body. Most are noticing it in my face.  They tell me that my face doesn’t look as bloaty and that my complexion looks better. I am noticing changes as well, but I am also noticing that I still have a long way to go and that I’m starting to slip off the train more frequently.

Day 83

Work was crazy today, but I tell myself that I am getting a great workout at school as I walk from end to end of the playground and classrooms. I also tried to play PE with several different classes to get moving as I am walking around.

Day 84

Volleyball day again. This weekend we are in Reno. My daughter told me that I need to stop using her as an excuse for not working out and eating right … she is so insightful. I did great on my eating tonight until the “mandatory” team dinner at 10 p.m.! I ordered a salad, but just didn’t feel right eating that late at night! I took the stairs though every chance I got and walked as much as I could between matches.

Day 85

Still in Reno and craving water like it’s going out of style! I guess that’s better than my tri-tip sandwich cravings. The convention center is also selling these fresh fruit cups that are amazing. Why does fruit taste better though when someone else cuts it ups and arranges it so nicely?
