The East Union girls varsity track squad came up shy of sweeping Wednesday’s tri-meet against both Sonora and Sierra.

The Lancers cruised by Sonora 97-20, but Sierra improved to 4-2 in the Valley Oak League after edging East Union 68-63.

East Union’s Jordan McNeal and Leticia Heron were both multiple-event winners.

McNeal won the 100-meter dash and 200, plus anchored the winning 4x100 relay team to victory in both competitions. Heron took first in the triple jump, long jump, high jump and was on the winning 4x100 relay team against both squads.

The Lancers, which suffered their first loss of the year and fell to 4-1, also received a pair of first-place finishes by Kayla Lecce in the 1,600 and 3,200 in the Sonora meet. Loretta Kakala took first in the shot put and second in the discus event against Sonora.

Sierra separated itself from its cross-town rival in the distance races.

“Sierra is a great team with a lot of depth in their distances,” East Union head coach Todd Dunaway said. “It was pretty much nip and tuck the whole meet.”
