Oakdale two-hits Lathrop

Oakdale kept its foot on the gas against the rest of the Valley Oak League after shutting out Lathrop 10-0 in a shortened five-inning contest.

Lathrop (1-10 VOL, 2-16 overall) mustered up two hits against the winning duo of Melinda Koppinger and Rylie Pena pitching for Oakdale (11-0, 17-1). The Spartans’ Kassidee Diaz and Regina Juarez tallied up Lathrop’s only singles.

The Spartans will host Sonora at home next Wednesday, followed by Manteca and Kimball to close out the season.

Michelle Castro recorded her career home run as the Lancers improved to 10-1 VOL, 17-1 overall. Cherish Burks went 2 for 2 and Alejandra Rascon was 1 for 1 with a walk as both only played two innings before EU built itself a 9-0 lead.

“We were up 9-0 in the blink of an eye,” East Union head coach Brian Goulart said.

The Lancers will have a doubleheader today at the Nor-Cal Classic at the Tracy Softball Complex starting with Gregori-Modesto at 5:30 p.m.
