This summer, Great Valley Writing Project at CSU Stanislaus will offer “GVWP Writing & Technology Workshops” at school sites in Manteca, Ripon, and Lathrop.

From June 9-20, workshops will be held at Ripon Elementary, Ripon High School, and Manteca’s Woodward Elementary. From July 14-26, a workshop will be held at River Islands Technology Academy in Lathrop.

These two-week programs run weekday mornings from 8:30-11:30. In addition, the workshop at Ripon High offers an extended-afternoon option from 1 to 2:30 p.m. for teens who will enter high school or college in the fall.

GVWP’s nonprofit workshops are designed to help teachers explore new instructional strategies for teaching writing, so each program features a large staff of GVWP consultants, credentialed classroom teachers, technology instructors, and exemplary teen coaches. With at least one mentor for every five students, each teacher has time to focus closely on a small group of young writers.

Technology plays a major role in the workshops. At the primary grades, teachers provide a variety of digital devices to enhance instruction and display student projects. At grades 4-12, students use computers every day as they compose, polish, and publish their work. The student-created website at http://gvwp.weebly.com provides links to view workshop photos and student projects.

The workshops are subsidized by contributions from local businesses and private donations: no taxpayer dollars are used.

Fees range from $150-$165, depending on the enrollment date. Parents who register online by May 5th may enter a special code to receive a $15 discount on any workshop. Promotional code = TheBulletin
