Ripon is headed back to the Sac-Joaquin Section Division V postseason tournament for a second straight season after picking up its ninth consecutive Trans Valley League victory Thursday.

The Indians (10-1 TVL, 18-4-3 overall) knocked off Orestimba 5-1 and now has a shot to win the TVL title outright Tuesday as they close their season against Hilmar for senior day.

Ripon senior Mackenzie Gauden tallied a complete-game, two-hit shutout and struck out 10 in the circle.

The Indians were led by Taylor Vernon (2 for 2, three RBIs), Darian Vandermaaten (2 for 3, run) and Felicia Ceja (2 for 3, triple), while Tiana Chacon finished 1 for 3 and crossed the plate.

Vernon brought a run home in the first inning to make it 1-0 and she also had run-scoring hits in the fifth and sixth innings as well.

Orestimba (6-5, 10-10) scratched its only run in the fourth when Brianna Martens tallied an RBI that made it 2-1 with a shot off Gauden that went to the left-field corner. Ripon tacked on two more in the next inning to go ahead three and one more in the sixth to make up the final.

“We just played real solid defense,” Vernon concluded. “We didn’t have any errors and they really made all the plays for Mackenzie. She only faced 22 batters and had 10 strikeouts, so they made all 12 plays.”

Ripon plays Hilmar Tuesday at 4 p.m. in Ripon.
