Despite Ripon jumping out to a one-run lead on the road against Orestimba on Friday, the Indians didn’t have an answer at the plate for the Warriors’ Adrian Perez.

Perez only gave up a run, tossed four strikeouts and induced nine ground-ball outs during a 4-1 Trans Valley League victory over the Indians (9-2 TVL, 13-8-1 overall).

“We were off the bases for the most part,” Ripon head coach Jon Manrique said. “We had a couple of hits, but (Perez) kept our batters off balance. We made some fielding errors that ended up costing (Trent Murphy).”

Murphy went the first four innings and took the loss before Brandon Scott came in to finish.

Nick Price went 2 for 4 with two steals and Angelo Baciocco was 2 for 3 with a pair of singles.

Luke Robison and Josh Clark tallied the Indians’ fifth and sixth hits and Baciocco was responsible for Ripon’s only run coming across in the top of the first after he put the ball in play through the 5-6 hole and beat out the throw that was ruled an error.

Orestimba (7-3, 14-5) tied the game in the bottom of the second and took the lead in the bottom of the third. The Warriors took a 4-1 advantage in the fourth to make up the final.

Ripon will close its season next week against Hilmar and can clinch its spot in the postseason by at least splitting the series against the Yellowjackets (6-4, 11-8-1).

“Hilmar is not a team to look past,” Manrique concluded. “They’ve beaten Escalon and Orestimba and they’ve played a lot better as of late. It’s going to be an easy road (to the playoffs).”
