Bulletin staff reports

One local elementary school honored its namesake and other military veterans by going casual for cash.

Staff members at Brock Elliott participated in “Jeans for Troops,” raising money and awareness for the GI Go Fund, a national non-profit that helps veterans transition upon their return home. Some of the services GI Go Fund supports include helping veterans find employment and housing; attend college; and access health and care and financial benefits.

On May 22, staff members were given the opportunity to wear jeans to work in exchange for a $5 donation. The effort was spearheaded by fifth-grade teacher Christina Huysentruyt and well-received by those on campus.

Nineteen staff members participated in the fund-raiser, including Principal Debra Ruger. Others were: Adrian Andrews, Adrian Hernandez, Alison Bettencourt, Blaine Hipkins, Carolyn Johnson, Jamie Fannell, Jennifer Morris, Kim Gaston, Lori Kinlaw, Nicole Woodman, Rocio Gonzalez, Sheryl Peters, Susan Kelley, Lorraine Lara, Suzy Jacobs, Sharon Kerns and Huysentruyt.

The school raised $90.
