June is turning out to be a busy month for scores of FFA and 4-H students in San Joaquin County including a few dozen from Manteca Unified School District.

They will be displaying and showing off their animals and other ag-related projects at the county fairgrounds in Stockton. With the long-standing county fair not happening this year, several community groups and concerned individuals are making sure this year will be a Fair one. Making it possible for the FFA and 4-H student to have a venue for showing and auctioning off their animals is an all-volunteer group which has put together the San Joaquin AgFest, Junior Show and Auction set for June 17-21 at the county fairgrounds.

From Lathrop High School alone, “we have 20 (FFA) kids showing this year, our biggest group so far,” said the Spartans’ ag teacher Dina Ariaz.

She and the parents of the students with animals are hoping the community will support the kids’ efforts and show up at the county fairgrounds to see the children’s animals. Most especially, they are hoping and community will come to the fairgrounds and show their support by participating in the auction. Many of the students use the money that they raise at the auction for their college education.

The Jr. Show and Auction is not the only attraction on tap at the country fairgrounds this month. On Saturday, June 14, there will be tractor pulls taking place in the Grandstand at the fairgrounds. Visit for additional details.

On tap in July on the fairgrounds include a Family Fair Music Festival from Wednesday, July 2, through the long Fourth of July weekend, a concert and dance on Sunday, July 13, in Building #2, and a car show-swap meet on the fairgrounds and in Building #1. On the third weekend of July – July 18-21 – will be a dog show put on by the Sierra-Tuolumne Kennel Club in the Grandstand.

The San Joaquin AgFest, Junior Show & Auction is being made possible by a partnership of Delta Cal Section FFA, San Joaquin County 4-H, San Joaquin Office of Education’s Educational Foundation, and the 2nd Agricultural District. It’s produced by the all-volunteer San Junior Show & Auction Council.
