Ziggy Roberson enjoyed a whirlwind day in Ripon.

On Monday, the new principal at Colony Oak School came in from Sacramento earlier that day to get the grand tour of the Ripon Unified School District.

She was impressed with her new surroundings.

“Ripon (Unified) reminded me of my old school district,” said Roberson, who was a principal at Rio Linda for about 20 years.

That school district became part of the Twin Rivers Unified School District.

Still, she had fond memories of her old school, which Roberson compared that to RUSD and Colony Oak.

“It’s a family-oriented community,” she said. “I noticed there’s plenty longevity (at RUSD).”

Roberson was accompanied by Weston School Principal Lisa Fereria, who is currently seeing her school site go through a major renovation thanks to the voter-approved Measure G. Colony Oak will also go through a similar process in the next few years.

She also met with Jesse Calvo, who served as the interim principal at Colony Oak as Marlon Gayle finished out the school year in March on paid administrative leave.

Calvo was recognized by the school board that evening for coming aboard and doing a fine job at Colony Oak during a “difficult situation,” Superintendent Bill Draa said.

Trustees also made it official, voting unanimously to hire Roberson, who begins her new job on July 1.

Other personnel changes ahead at RUSD:

• Angelica Bogetti is stepping down from her job as executive assistant to the superintendent to become a substitute teacher.

• Ripona School will get two new teachers in Jessica Chumney and Raevin Burgess.

• Leslie Due was hired to teach at Weston.

• Colony Oak will welcome a new teacher in Kate Ballatore.

• Kristy Dillman and Tai Anne Elam are coming aboard as teacher at Park View.

• Erin Stuart was hired on to the Ripon High teaching staff.

In each case, the moves become effective on July 1.
