When you strike out 13 batters in a five-inning game, you do not need a lot of offense, especially if you hit two home runs. That is what Isaiah Perez did for the Manteca Red Sox in a 10-0 five-inning mercy-rule-shortened contest against the Northgate Blue Jays in the District 67 Majors Tournament of Champions on Sunday at Manteca Little League.

The fire-throwing right hander had only three Blue Jays reach base. Gary Alexander had the lone hit for Northgate with a double in the first inning, and the other two base runners came via a walk and an error. Perez struck out the side in order in the second inning.

Perez led the Red Sox 11-hit attack, going 3 for 3 with two home runs and three RBI. Nico Alardi was 2 for 3 with an RBI, Briggs Alavezos was 2 for 4 with a double and two RBI, leadoff batter A.J. Kovaks was 2 for 4 with a double and Gabe Ortiz had a double.

The Red Sox came into the fifth inning needing a run end the game, and they got it in two batters. Kovaks led off the frame with a double and was knocked in by Alavezos.

Manteca plays either Salida or Weston Ranch in a quarterfinal contest Thursday at 5 p.m. and Northgate faces either Salida or Weston Ranch in an elimination contest tonight at 7:30.
