Locals looking to beat the heat without traveling to a nearby lake or pool can still cool down at the local parks in Turlock, two of which boast water facilities.

A nice respite from the heat for all ages, the water parks not only get families outside together but allow them to enjoy the summer months by taking advantage of the parks and water facilities for no fee. Broadway Park and Columbia Park both offer water parks that allow kids to run through the shooting water while parents and family members enjoy the nearby shade.

“The water parks are just another avenue for the community to come out and enjoy the parks. They get to enjoy the great park setting and can take advantage of the nearby playgrounds and picnic areas too,” said Eric Shultz, superintendent of Parks, Recreation and Facilities for the City of Turlock.

While many towns are shutting off their water facilities in order to save water during the drought period, Turlock has decided to keep their facilities open but at a reduced rate. Water will still be available to play in but nozzles have been changed to emit 50 percent lower streams of water and the water timers have been shortened to not run as long.

“We feel it is important to offer a safe place for people to cool off during the summer. By shortening the time and changing the nozzles, people can still enjoy the water park but we are still decreasing overall water use,” said Shultz.

The water facilities at Broadway Park and Columbia Park are open during the summer months from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. seven days a week.
