Ripon did something in Friday night’s semifinal game against Tracy that it has not had to do in this year’s Cal Ripken Central California District 1 10-under Tournament.

It played a full six innings.

Ripon may have been taken the distance, but it was not close with a 10-3 win over Tracy at Veteran’s Park in Ripon, setting up a date Sunday night in the championship game. All 10 Ripon runs came in the first three innings.

Malik Taylor had the big bat for Ripon, going 3 for 3 with a double, three RBI and three runs. Joseph Chavez was 2 for 2 with three runs with Marco Herrero (two RBI), Damian Sandoval (RBI, run), Elijah Shupperd (RBI, run) and Anthony Sausedo (run) contributing to the Ripon attack.

Joseph Chavez struck out six and allowed one hit in three innings of work for Ripon. Taylor threw two innings, striking out three with two hits and Andrew Clark went one inning, striking out two and allowing one hit.

Championship play begins at 5 p.m. on Sunday. Whomever Ripon plays must win twice for the championship, while Ripon needs just one win.
