Petratis sinks game-winner to lead Ripon

RIPON – Brandon Petratis’ rattled in a layup with 3.7 seconds left for Ripon’s deciding points in a thrilling 48-47 victory over visiting rival Ripon Christian Friday in Trans Valley League sophomore boys basketball action.

Ripon Christian’s Logan Vos, who paced all players with 18 points, nearly sank a turnaround 3-pointer from the right wing as the horn sounded.

Andy Buntins and Tamim Shetab scored 12 point apiece to lead the Indians, and J.P. Pizano added 11. Aaron Fay turned in 12 points for the Knights, and Dylan Van Vliet added nine.

VALLEY OAK LEAGUE
East Union 44, Sonora 42
Up 30-19 at the half in Sonora, the Lancers weathered a second-half storm from Sonora to win it.

Laurence Baraan had 13 and TeeJay Gordon added 12.

“We hit that lull in the third quarter again,” EU head coach Jeff Lund said. “But we shot our free throws just well enough to win it.”

EU (3-6 VOL, 8-11 overall) hosts Ceres Wednesday.

Oakdale 62, Manteca 51
At Winter Gym, Eric Godfrey had 20, and Ryan Culpepper added nine, but it wouldn’t be enough as Oakdale built a 31-16 halftime lead and cruised to the win.

Manteca (6-3 VOL, 14-5 overall) heads to Central Valley Wednesday.

Ceres 62, Sierra 39
At Sierra High, the T’Wolves slipped to 5-4 in VOL play with the loss.
Edy Guzman scored 11, Grant Widmer had six and Eddie Andrade five.

“Ceres took it to us,” Sierra head coach Justin Muschott said. “We played hard, but sometimes that’s not good enough against a quality team. We have to have a short memory and be ready for Lathrop (today).”

The T’Wolves (8-10 overall) travel to the Spartans’ house this afternoon.

Central Valley 51, Weston Ranch 47
In Ceres, both Tau Cavil and Lorenzo scored 14 for the Cougars in defeat.

Devante DeLeon added nine.

Weston Ranch travels to Oakdale Wednesday.

East Union 59, Sonora 38
In the foothills, Brandon Cline hit two pivotal technical foul free throws then scored 14 of his 19 to lead the Lancers to victory.

With the win, EU improved to 9-0 in VOL play and 16-2 overall.

Alex Del Rio had 17 points and seven rebounds, while Zac Carillo contributed 10 and eight rebounds.

EU hosts Lathrop Tuesday.

Ceres 57, Sierra 48
At Sierra High, Jojo berry had 19, Bret Wilson 13 and Aneal Sahota eight but it wouldn’t be enough.

“We are getting better,” Sierra head coach Mahlon Lott said. “We’re in every game, we just don’t execute down the stretch.”

Sierra hosts Sonora Wednesday.

Central Valley 28, Weston Ranch 25
In Ceres, Alex Saavedra and Gujunt Leader stood out for the Cougars in the loss.

“We were flat the whole game,” Cougars head coach Dan DeLeon said. “We lost focus.”

Weston Ranch (6-5 VOL, 7-7 overall) travels to Oakdale Wednesday.

Oakdale 57, Manteca 50
At Winter Gym, the Baby Buffs were outscored 23-10 in the second quarter.

Ruben Stewart finished with 11 and Ben O’Dell had 10.

Manteca (6-3 VOL, 13-7 overall) heads to Central Valley Wednesday.
