Johnny Grizzle of Manteca will be in invested with the Honorary Legion of Honor at ceremonies held at San Francisco’s Scottish Rite Temple, this Sunday, Jan. 24, at 2 p.m..

The Legion of Honor is DeMolay’s highest honor, conferred by the International Supreme Council of the Order of DeMolay, located in Kansas City, Missouri.  The Honorary Legion of Honor is conferred on a Mason over 30 years of age who has performed unusual and meritorious service on behalf of DeMolay.

Johnny, a member of Manteca Masonic Tyrian Lodge #439 has been a Mason since 1977.  Past Masonic honors include Tyrian Lodge #439 Mason of Year and the Hiram, the highest award presented to a Mason from his brothers in the lodge.

Johnny’s involvement with Manteca DeMolay began in 1991 when his son Matthew joined the Order. Johnny became an advisor and has held the positions of Chapter and Divisional DAD. He’s been Chairman of the Advisory Council for 15+ years.  Johnny supported and encouraged his sons Matthew and Roy in DeMolay and both received numerous awards and honors, including the distinction of Chevalier, the highest honor for an active DeMolay.

Past honors Johnny has received include the Lamp of Knowledge for completing five leadership correspondence courses and the Cross of Honor for three or more years of conspicuous meritorious service to a chapter or jurisdiction, and exceptionally outstanding efforts on behalf of DeMolay. Johnny was Advisor of the Year for Northern California and received the Guild of the Leather Apron award in 1998.  This award was designed to give singular recognition to a DeMolay advisor who made outstanding contributions to the growth and success of the Order and who exemplifies the ideals and precepts of DeMolay in his daily life as well as in his work with the young men in DeMolay.

DeMolay is an international fraternal organization for young men between the ages of 12 and 21.  DeMolay is dedicated to preparing young men to live successful, happy and productive lives by developing the civic awareness, personal responsibility and leadership skills so vitally important in society today.

There are approximately 800 DeMolay chapters in the United States, and more than one million young men have joined DeMolay, including Walter Cronkite, President Bill Clinton, John Wayne, Dan Rather and Walt Disney.

Johnny would be honored if current and former DeMolay’s, their families, members of concurrent Masonic bodies and friends, attend his investiture ceremonies this Sunday.  The San Francisco Scottish Rite Temple is located at 2850 Nineteenth Avenue.
