Mayor Chuck Winn recently gave his best guesstimate on the attendance of the City of Ripon Farmers’ Market at Stouffer Park.

“I’d say about 300,” he said.

Those numbers may have been spiked a bit since Disney’s Frozen was the free movie in the park that evening.

“Everyone enjoyed themselves.” Winn said. “This was a well attended event and the vendors and community seemed please.”

Councilman Jake Parks agreed.

From what he gathered, the event was not only well received but Mistlin Park appears to be an ideal location for Farmers’ Market this time of the year.

“All the vendors like it, especially with the shade (trees),” Parks said. “It’s been consistently busy and attracting more vendors – it was the right choice to move to this location.”

The Farmers’ Market was recently held in a section of downtown. Prior to that, the summer event was in the Mar-Val Food Store parking lot currently Dollar General Store.

Farmers’ Market is scheduled today from 4 to 7:30 p.m., and every Thursday through July 17.

One of the newest attractions is the wine-tasting room located across the way in the park at Stouffer Hall.

In an effort to create easy access, Winn suggested that Public Works Director Ted Johnston and his staff look into directing a path from the vendor area to the wine-tasting room.

The reviews on the new Farmers’ Market are positive.

Elected leaders said the park location makes it easier for vendors to setup prior to the event, especially with no traffic or pedestrian issues.

In addition, Parks and others – based on the strong attendance for Disney’s Frozen – wouldn’t mind seeing the free family movie night moved to the park.

“There’s been discussion of keeping it at Stouffer from the Mistlin Sports Complex,” he said.
