Marshall Magincalda stood in the front of his Woodward Avenue ranchette and gazed at the dozens of people buzzing around his property as if it were normal.

A large white truck full of high-powered lights, rigging and array of thick, braided cabling blocked one entrance to what is normally a pass-through driveway. While development has eliminated the true country feel the house once had, there isn’t a parking spot within a city block – cars are inched under trees and against fences. People mill about, some with a sense of purpose and some like they’ve just hurried up to wait.

Such is life when your home becomes the set of a Hollywood movie.

Magincalda was just out mowing the lawn a few weeks ago when a car drove by, stopped, and then pulled back into the driveway – a car carrying Tracy native and current Hollywood producer Brooke Dooley who just happened to be passing by after visiting family members living up the street.

Something about the home stuck out. Dooley felt compelled to at least stop and inquire.

“I told her that my wife had just gone to the store and she’d be right back and I better wait for her before I make any decisions like that,” Magincalda said. “I honestly didn’t think that she’d go for it. But it kind of worked out that way.”

Magincalda’s wife Leanne was more receptive that he thought she would be. And when she read the script, written by director and Linden native Erahm Christopher, she said she’d love to be involved with the project in some capacity.

“There’s a lot that goes into it that you don’t really get to see,” she said. “Sometimes they don’t get something right and they have to do something again.

Filming is expected to take place in various areas including Manteca High School.

The film, entitled “Listen,” will, according to the Internet Movie Database (IMDb) star Steve Rankin, Linc Hand and Micah Haputman. It is currently listed in pre-production with a release date set for 2015.
