Dr. Glen Shirk was a longtime pediatrician in Ripon.

For 33 years, he and his wife, Lois, have provided commitment, spiritual leadership, compassion and service to folks of this area.

On Tuesday, the Ripon City Council members are scheduled to express their appreciation to the Shirks with a proclamation during the 7 p.m. open session.

They’ll be honored for “their outstanding contributions to the community, maintaining the highest standards of excellence both personally, spiritually and professionally, and providing an example for others to follow,” according to the proclamation.

Mayor Chuck Winn will lead in this presentation.

During their time in Ripon, the Shirks raised five children and became involved in church.

Dr. Shirk went from practicing medicine – he did so part-time until 2007 – to ministry at Ripon Grace Church. Lois served as church administrator as well as the women’s Bible study leader.

“They achieved their goals to lovingly accept whoever walked through the doors and support missionary work and outreach to those in need. They will always be remembered for their spiritual leadership and cheerful smiles in addition to the untold contributions to our community,” said the proclamation.

In other agenda items:

• Elected leaders will look to change their Aug. 5 meeting, from 7 p.m. to 5 o’clock in order to attend the National Night Out festivities at the Ripon Community Center.

• Calvary Community Church will request street closure, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Second Street between Palm Avenue and Vera Avenue on Sunday, Aug. 24, for the End of Summer Block Party.

• Mayor Winn will give a presentation on the Bay Delta Conservation Plan.
