Manteca Unified Board of Trustees vice president Evelyn Moore filed her candidate’s papers Monday at the San Joaquin County Registrar’s Office in Stockton.

She was the first of the four incumbents to file papers for re-election in November.

Monday was the first day of filing for candidates in November’s general elections. The last day to file is Aug. 10 at 5 p.m., unless there is an extension, in which case the deadline will be extended by three days to Wednesday, Aug. 13. There is an automatic extension of the deadline when the incumbent does not file papers on the official deadline day.

Moore represents Trustee Area 5. The three incumbents whose terms are ending this year are board president Don Scholl who represents Area 6, Trustee Manuel Medeiros of Area 2, and Nancy Teicheira of Area 4.

There will be no further election race for San Joaquin County Office of Education (SJCOE) board members. The two area races were decided in the June primary elections. In Area 4, the two-way race for the seat being vacated by Anthony Gutierrez was won by retired Manteca Unified athletic director Vern Gebhardt who bested contender Janell Somera. Former board president Jill Fritchen of Weston Ranch lost her bid for another term to represent Area 3 to Peter Ottesen. Gebhardt and Ottesen will officially take their seat on the board at the end of the year.

The race for the county superintendent seat will continue in November when a run-off election will decide who between the two top vote getters in June will eventually win – SJCOE deputy superintendent James Mousalimas or Delta Charter Schools Superintendent Jeff Tilton of New Jerusalem School District in Tracy. The winner will take over Superintendent Mick Founts who is retiring in December.

There is no filing fee for those who want to submit their papers at the Registrar of Voters office. However, there is a set fee that candidates have to pay if they would like to have a statement printed in the sample ballot box.
