Award-winning watercolorist  Dan Petersen and ceramicist, Stan Holtz, will be combining their talents in a special two-man exhibition at the Mistlin Gallery from Aug.19 through Sept. 20.

Dan Petersen is a Ripon resident and retired Modesto Junior College art professor with over 40 years of teaching experience. He brings a unique style and spiritual clarity to his watercolor landscapes. Using the highest quality reproduction techniques, prints of his work will be available at affordable prices.

His watercolor mural of Yosemite Valley graces the PG&E building in the 200 block of East Yosemite Avenue in Manteca.

In conjunction with this exhibition, Petersen will be conducting a watercolor workshop over four Saturdays. In the workshop, themed “A Brush with the Hills,” he will share a number of techniques he has developed over his career. Each 4-hour session will start with a demonstration by Petersen and then students can break out for individual studio time. This workshop is tailored for intermediate or advanced watercolor artists.

Workshop dates are Aug. 23, Aug. 30, Sept. 6, and Sept. 13 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The cost is $250 for the four, 4-hour sessions. A  list of recommended supplies will be provided to attendees prior to the first session.

Sign up early; space is limited to 30 students and organizers expect a lot of interest in this unique opportunity.

Mistlin Gallery hours are Tuesday-Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday noon to 4 p.m. Admission is free and parking is validated for the 11th and K Streets parking garage. The Central California Art Association is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting the visual arts, art education, and providing cultural opportunities for the community.
