Steve DeBrum has filed campaign paperwork making him an official candidate for mayor of Manteca.

DeBrum is currently serving his fourth term on the City Council and was appointed vice-mayor earlier this year.  During his 11 years in office, DeBrum cites increased public safety, job creation and fiscal responsibility as the three accomplishments he is most proud of during his tenure.

“There are more police officers and firefighters on the streets, increased job opportunities, and our city now has a structurally balanced budget and a rainy day fund to protect taxpayers,” DeBrum said. “While we have accomplished much over the past decade, there is more left to do in ensuring our community maintains its unique quality of life.”

DeBrum was initially elected in a special election in March of 2003 soundly defeating four other candidates.    He was, subsequently, re-elected to four year terms in 2004, 2008, and 2012 .

He’s been endorsed by Sheriff Steve Moore, all five San Joaquin County Supervisors, Congressman Jeff Denham, Congressman Jerry McNerney, Assemblymember Kristin Olsen, current Manteca Mayor Willie Weatherford, Manteca Councilmembers Debby Moorhead, John Harris and Vince Hernandez, Manteca Police Chief Nick Obligacion, Manteca Fire Chief Kirk Waters, the Manteca Police Officer’s Association, the Manteca Firefighters Association, the Carpenters Union Local 152 and many others.

DeBrum was born in Hanford and graduated from Hanford High School in 1965.  He earned his Bachelor of Science degree from California State Polytechnic College, San Luis Obispo in 1970. Drawing on his strong passion for the growth and preservation of agriculture, Steve went to work for Foremost Foods Company in their laboratory and later in the Field Department. In 1979, Steve was hired as the Dairy Manager for Knudsen Agricultural Management Company.

In 1984, DeBrum began service from his home base in Manteca as the Area Field Representative for a number of dairy farmers, an agricultural marketing cooperative now known as the Dairy Farmers of America. He now serves as DFA’s Northern California manager which covers the Northern California and Northern Nevada area.

DeBrum currently sits on the City’s Criminal Justice Task Force, the Manteca Unified School District 2 x 2 Common Goals Committee, as a member of the San Joaquin Council of Governments, the Second Harvest Food Bank Board and the Manteca Sunrise Kiwanis Board of Directors.

DeBrum is active in a number of professional clubs and associations. He is currently a member of the California Dairy Industry Association and is a past member of the California Auctioneers Association. He is the past president of the Manteca Convention and Visitor’s Bureau, and is also a past President of the Manteca Chamber of Commerce and Board Member for the Manteca Boys and Girls Club.

He is a member of the Manteca Sunrise Kiwanis, where he has served as Lt. Governor for the California, Nevada, and Hawaii region. He has served as a past state officer for the Future Farmers of America. As an active member of Manteca’s St. Anthony’s Parish, Steve has served in the role of Grand Knight with the St. Anthony’s Knights of Columbus.

DeBrum and his wife Veronica have been married for 46 years. They have two grown children and five grandchildren.
