Strong fourth lifts T’Wolves over Ceres

The Sierra High boys sophomore basketball team entered the fourth quarter trailing by four points, but a dominant final period lifted the Timberwolves to a comfortable 59-51 Valley Oak League win over the visiting Ceres Bulldogs.

Sierra (7-3 VOL) saw three players finish in double figures, with Joseph Berry leading the way with 15. Berry connected on four 3-pointers, knocking down two of them during the fourth-quarter comeback.

Tim Thornton added 13, going off with 11 in the fourth, and Bret Wilson also chipped in with 13.

The Bulldogs were led by Binder Atwal’s 23 points and nick Welsh added 19.

Weston Ranch 67, Central Valley 44
WESTON RANCH – The Cougars built a 31-17 halftime lead and never let up, handling the Hawks with ease in VOL play Friday.

Dylan Alexander led all scorers with 21 points and also pulled down a game-high 13 rebounds in the win. Preston Watkins and Marlon Aumentado finished with nine and eight points, respectively, while Aumentado also dished out seven assists.

All eight of the Cougars found their way into the scorebook.

Ripon 49, Ripon Christian 36
RIPON – The Indians used a 19-point third quarter to distance themselves from the host Knights in Trans Valley League action Friday.

Cole Herrin led Ripon (12-10) with 18 points, while Kyle Wengel and Andrew Bonner added nine and eight, respectively.

James Vander Schaff led the Knights with 10, Jared Goslinga added nine and Kalvin Prins finished with eight.

Manteca 54, Lathrop 42
The Buffaloes were able to snap a four-game losing streak with their VOL win over Lathrop Friday.

Nick Garcia led Manteca (5-5, 8-9) with 11 points and teammates Ryan Fox, Reshawn Bell and Thomas Galdos all chipped in eight. Gilbert Contreras led Lathrop with 16.

Ripon Christian 49, Ripon 37
RIPON – Tanner Jordan and Kyle Head scored eight and seven, respectively, for the Indians in a losing effort.
