LATHROP — The City of Lathrop will be hosting the first in a series of public workshops to revise the Master Plan for the East Lathrop Community Complex.

The workshop will take place on Tuesday, Feb. 9, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Lathrop Senior Center, 25707 Fifth Street, Lathrop.

The public workshop is open to all Lathrop citizens (including youth and teens, neighbors of the site, organizations providing youth and teen services, those interested in public library services, etc.) The intent of this first public workshop is to answer any questions citizens may have related to the East Lathrop Community Complex, while at the same time obtaining an understanding of the ideas and visions of the community for the new Lathrop Public Library and Youth & Teen Center.

The City of Lathrop’s East Lathrop Community Complex Project includes development of an approximately three-acre block located between 6th and 7th Streets and L Street and Thomsen Road in Lathrop. The block currently houses a Head Start facility, the current City Skate Park, an abandoned house and the current city corporation yard. The latter two will be demolished prior to development of this project, but the Head Start Facility and Skate Park will remain throughout development.

In 2007, a series of public workshops was held which led to the development of the current Master Plan for this project, which includes adjacent street improvements, a Youth & Teen Center building, play equipment, and art walk, skate park expansion, parking lot, outdoor stage with turf seating mound, landscape, irrigation, security lighting, underground utilities and storm water basin.

Last year, the Lathrop City Council decided it would be in the best interest of the community to build a new Public Library on this site along with the Youth & Teen Center.
