A 23-year-old Hispanic man, Alfred Tenorio, was left for dead on the sidewalk of Northgate Drive shortly before midnight Saturday after being shot at close range with a shotgun, Manteca Police said.

The victim and a friend were reportedly walking westward on Northgate near the intersection with Maywood Avenue when a dark blue SUV pulled up with a passenger firing shotgun out of the vehicle striking the man in the chest and face.  Detective Wayne Miller said Tenorio had been wearing red, but said that was no confirmation that he was a Norteno street gang member.

The second man ran away from the vehicle before hearing the shotgun blast returning to find his friend on the ground.  The victim was taken to San Joaquin County Hospital in French Camp where he underwent emergency surgery.  Family friends reported Monday that Tenorio remains in intensive care listed in critical condition – noting he also lost one eye in the attack.

Police said they have not as yet made an arrest in the case; however another friend said the attack was believed to be gang-related.
