A man believed to be in his early 20s,  who was shot in the legs last Monday night at the corner of Northwoods Avenue and Lovell Way,  was released from a Manteca hospital the night of the shooting.
Friends had rushed him to hospital emergency as medics and police were racing toward the call of shots fired and a man down on the sidewalk.
Manteca Police said the victim was being uncooperative in commenting on the shooting.  One bullet was reportedly removed by doctors while the second remains in the man’s leg.
With the help of a witness and his cell phone who pursued the three suspects at about 7:30 p.m. eastbound toward Escalon, police were able to come within 10 seconds of the trio described as armed and dangerous.  Their car apparently blew an engine as it drove northbound on Sexton Road.
With the help of the highway patrol and the sheriff’s department, Manteca officers searched an orchard for nearly two hours as a CHP helicopter hovered overhead with heat-seeking equipment.
