Picnic at the Pops! salutes Neil Diamond

MODESTO  — The Modesto Symphony Orchestra  will present its 20th annual outdoor concert, Picnic at the Pops! on Saturday, Sept. 6, on the grounds of the E&J Gallo Winery.

Associate conductor Ryan Murray will lead the Modesto Symphony Orchestra in a concert of Neil Diamond’s greatest hits featuring the tribute group Super Diamond performing  more than twenty Diamond hits like “Sweet Caroline,” I’m a Believer,” “Cracklin’ Rose” and many more.

The winery grounds open at 4 p.m .and the concert begins at 7:30 p.m. concluding with a spectacular fireworks finale.  Guests are encouraged to bring a picnic dinner and enjoy the music in the outdoor park setting of the winery grounds.  Outside alcohol is prohibited.  A selection of wines, soda, coffee and water are available for purchase at the concert with all proceeds benefitting the Modesto Symphony.  Catered boxed meals may be pre-ordered and pre-paid from three authorized caterers: O’Brien’s Market, Green’s Market or Tressetti’s World Cafe. A community favorite, Picnic at the Pops! attracts a large crowd of some 4,000 guests and all are encouraged to purchase their tickets early. Tickets are $12 to $57 and are available at the Gallo Center for the Arts Ticket Office. Group rates are available.  Tickets are also available at the following outlets: Nu-Way Cleaners (Bowen at College), O’Brien’s Market (all 3 locations), Salon Salon in McHenry Village and the Hilmar Cheese Visitors Center. 

Murray is a highly regarded conductor in steady demand as both a performer and educator throughout California. He was recently named Associate Conductor for the Modesto Symphony Orchestra and Music Director for the Modesto Symphony Youth Orchestra, as well as being named Artistic Director of the Napa Valley Youth Symphony; with which he will make his conducting debut at Carnegie Hall in 2014. Ryan has also been named Music in the Mountains Resident Conductor, and has held the position of Choral Director of the Music in the Mountains Festival Chorale since 2008. Widely praised for his skill on the podium, Murray’s dynamic conducting, affable personality and deeply-held passion for the arts has allowed him to connect deeply with orchestras and audiences alike. 

Murray also holds the position of Music Director of Townsend Opera in Modesto.
