The Soroptimist members of Manteca are preparing for their 18th annual “Something Special” themed luncheon.

This year’s theme is “For All Seasons.”

Each Soroptimist will give her own version of her favorite season. There seems to be a great deal of competition again this year. This event will have several new changes. It will be held at the Manteca Senior Center a month earlier than normal and it will be held on Saturday rather than on a Monday.

The luncheon is Saturday, March 6, and the brunch is Sunday, March 7.

It is a must-attend luncheon. You will be amazed at the amount of themes generated from only four seasons of the year. By the end of the day, you will be asking, “ Are you sure that there are only four seasons per year?” The luncheon tickets are $25 each.

The luncheon menu this year will be chicken breast with apple/ almond sauce, linguine pesto, Genova Bakery rolls and butter as well as a green California salad. The lemon cake dessert will be served with coffee, tea, water, and perhaps a glass of your favorite wine.

There will also be a brunch on Sunday, to serve those whose favorite part of the day is to have a leisurely meal after church. Top Flight Catering from Stockton will be serving scrambled eggs with bacon, sausage, fresh fruit, country potatoes and assorted Danish and muffins. There will be milk, coffee, tea, chocolate as well as orange, grape, and cranberry juices. The brunch tickets are $15 each. For children ages four years old to ten the tickets are $10 each.

As he did last year, Robert Hallam will be conducting no-charge appraisals of your jewelry and precious metals during Sunday’s brunch. Last year and the year before Robert’s booth proved to be very popular. Robert is from Avenue Coins, 2220 Pacific Avenue in Stockton. He will be in Manteca at the Senior Center from 9 a.m. until noon. He will be prepared to buy any metals or jewelry that you would like to sell.

There will be some appealing selections to be given away as raffle prizes. Each day will have its own set of prizes: Saturday, there will be “Wine and Dine for Ten at Delicato’s Hospitality Room” plus many other valuable prizes. This drawing will be held at one in the afternoon.

The Sunday raffle prizes will be selected by each ticket purchase. Tickets will be placed in containers immediately adjacent to the raffle prize of your choice. The Soroptimist members anticipate an exciting exchange by all who participate.

The Soroptimist International of Manteca is a women’s service organization whose mission is “To improve the lives of women and girls in local communities and throughout the world.” Several of their projects over the years have been to provide the Manteca Fire Department with their very first “Jaws of Life” that proved to be a life saver. On the first day of use, the Manteca firefighters rescued a victim from an automobile accident.

Over the years, they helped purchase the van for the Manteca CAPS. provided hearing aids for handicapped children, have provided scholarships every year to students, helped school children attend the symphony, provided help with the Art in the Park project. They have provided benches, murals, counseling for Manteca Unified students, the list goes on and on.
