The body of a 31-year-old male motorist was pulled from his SUV about 10 p.m. Monday night that had become submerged in the murky levee water off of Wing Levee Road.

French Camp firefighters were called to the scene about a mile south of Howard Road calling for mutual aid from the Lathrop-Manteca Fire Department for its dive team.  A CHP helicopter was also called to assist with the search of the area with its infrared and lighting capabilities.

Engine crews established command of the incident and set up a technical rope system to lower the divers to the water’s edge.  The Lathrop-Manteca Fire Rescue Divers made access to the vehicle and located the driver as the sole occupant.

The identity of the motorist is unknown.
