The Ripon Unified school board race will not go to the polls.

According to Bassem Nakhla, who is the Candidates Filing Supervisor for the San Joaquin County Registrar of Voters office in Stockton, new comer Chad Huskey is expected to be appointed to the Trustee Area 1 seat “in lieu of the election.”

That’s the seat currently occupied by board President Donna Parks, who opted not to run after serving two terms.

Huskey is no stranger to the district, having served on the Colony Oak Elementary School Parents Faculty Association as well as the Colony Oak Elementary School Site Council, the Ripon High Site Council and the Measure G Citizens’ Oversight Committee.

The filing period for the school board was extended to Aug. 13.

Since no one stepped up, Nakhla said that incumbents Ernie Tyhurst in Area 2 and Christopher ‘Kit’ Oase in Area 3 will be reappointed to their old seats.

Voters will have a say on the future of the election process – Trustee Area only or the current at-large?

As for the Ripon City Council race, incumbent Dean Uecker refilled while Mayor Chuck Winn, instead, is vying for the San Joaquin County Supervisor District 4 race, where he’ll go up against Lodi businessman Russ Munson.

Former Ripon mayor and council member Mike Restuccia and educator / businessman Shane Smith will join Uecker for the two open seats come November.
