The Manteca Jr. Buffaloes youth football and cheer organization was well represented at JAMZ Nationals Jan. 30 in Las Vegas.

The Jr. Buffaloes’ claimed the Youth II Show Cheer Level 2 Limited division (ages 10-12) despite being the smallest of the four teams in the competition. The Santa Paula Cardinals, Tracy Buccaneers and Mariposa Bears — who finished 2-4 in that order —  each had anywhere from 15-21 members, while the Jr. Buffaloes consisted of just 11.

Manteca’s squad earned a 4-foot trophy, and each athlete received a gold medal and a black jacket that has the words “JAMZ National Champions” stitched into the backs.

The Jr. Buffs qualified for nationals by taking first in the JAMZ Regional Championships in Davis on Jan. 16. The title-winning performances were the first for the Jr. Buffs at the regional and national levels.

The team was led by cheer director and Yvette Andrade-Broderick and novice head coach Maria Soto.
