Stephanie Hobbs, president of the Ripon Community Athletic Foundation, is eagerly awaiting the celebration of the revitalization of Stouffer Field.

“This is the pinnacle event for all who have worked on (the Ripon High stadium and track) project,” she said.

Hobbs is talking about the ribbon-cutting ceremony is planned for 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 28, Congressman Jeff Denham (R-Turlock) along with Assemblywoman Kristin Olsen (R-Modesto) and a host of dignitaries including a member of the Stouffer family are scheduled to be there.

“Wear your sneakers,” Chad Huskey said to school board members at last week’s meeting.

The reason for that is the all-weather track surface installed recently by California Track and Engineering Inc. of Fresno can’t handle the pressure of hard shoes, Hobbs said.

She and her husband, Vince, were among those who led the grass-root efforts of revitalizing the aging RHS sports facility in 2007.

Up until recently, Vince Hobbs was juggling his time as firefighter in Hayward and the finishing stages of the RHS track.

“But he’s been stuck at work,” Stephanie Hobbs said.

Enter their 22-year-old son Luke Hobbs and Paul Campbell. They led a small group with completing work on the track by pouring an additional 74 yards of concrete.

Their efforts came as a big yet welcomed surprise to the Hobbs.

Thursday’s celebration at Stouffer Field will also recognize the $1.5 million of donated and installed improvements, from the new track, to the unveiling of the Donor Wall replica.

“This for all those who contributed – we want to make sure their names are spelled correctly and the way they want it before next year when the actual Donor Wall goes up,” Stephanie Hobbs said.

In addition, the first 1,000 in attendance will get a free cupcake from the Cupcake Lady.
