All signs point to a positive first-year experience for the Ripon Farmers Market at Stouffer Park.

“It was set up nicely for the vendors,” Councilman Jake Parks said at last week’s Ripon City Council meeting. “They were happy with the shade trees, the grass area and the off-loading area for their vehicles.”

Mayor Chuck Winn applauded the addition of wine-tasting to the annual summer event.

He’s hoping to see that part of the farmers market expanded to include more wine vendors.

After being held in downtown Main Street for the past few years, the city decided to move the Ripon Farmers Market to the city park at 1000 Stouffer St.

“We thought it went great,” said Parks. “We can build on the positive results coming from the changes made in the location this year.”

The new venue also gave the city more flexibility. In addition to the wine-tasting room, one of the free outdoor movies was held there.

But don’t expect the summer movies to relocate there anytime soon.

Mistlin is a better suited for Friday Night family movies based on the staging area and the amphitheater set up for seating, according to Recreation Director Kye Stevens.

Parks, whose report was based on the Farmers Market wrap-up meeting, recently took over as the lead on that committee, Winn said.

For that, Winn thanked him along with market manager Tara Fisher-Carnahan for their efforts in making the summer event a success.
