Suspect’s arrest ends drug deal gone bad near Lathrop City Hall

LATHROP – The victim of a drug transaction gone bad in an area just south of Lathrop City Hall was able to call the police which resulted in the suspect being arrested and booked into the San Joaquin County Jail.

Arrested by Lathrop deputies who responded to the scene of the crime Monday night was 22-year-old Maurice Dashay Hatchett, a black male, who is facing robbery charges. He was arrested and booked into the county jail on the robbery charge.

The unidentified 20-year-old male victim told police he was robbed of his cell phone plus $31 in cash during a marijuana drug transaction with the suspect. The incident, according to police, happened around 8 p.m.  Monday in the 400 block of Brookhurst Boulevard just south of Lathrop City Hall.

The victim told police that during the drug transaction, the suspect hit him in the head and then sprayed him with pepper spray. The victim also reported that while he was on the ground, the suspect kicked him and choked him.

Deputies responding to the scene of the crime were later able to locate the suspect in the vicinity and transported him to the San Joaquin County Jail and charged with robbery.

The condition of the injured victim was not immediately available.
