RIPON — While powerhouse Modesto Christian capped yet another dominant run through the Trans Valley League for its fourth straight title, Ripon High’s girls basketball team can find solace in going undefeated against the rest of the conference’s opposition.

Ripon already had second place wrapped up but wanted to finish the regular season strong Thursday, and the Indians drubbed Escalon 56-25 on Senior Night.

“We wanted to carry some momentum going into the playoffs, so we made sure to get these games under our belt,” Ripon coach George Contente said.

The Indians (8-2, 16-10 overall) are 10th according to the Sac-Joaquin Section’s final posting of the Division IV power ratings. They will find out Sunday afternoon exactly where they are seeded for the postseason.

Thursday’s contest not only served as a tune-up, but also a chance to honor the team’s seniors.

And all three seniors delivered, chiefly 6-foot center Lauren Feddersen with her 20-point, 14-rebound performance. Sereena Hertel added 14 points, and Adrianna Mayberry finished with seven.

Shay Archer paced Escalon (2-8, 5-19) with eight points.

Ripon led 18-6 after the first quarter and sat comfortably at halftime while ahead 32-10.

“We started some different people tonight, and it was nice to see our seniors lead us in scoring,” Contente said. “Our defense and on-ball pressure were really good. They had a hard time with us pressing them, and that was the type of intensity we wanted to see going in (to the playoffs).”
