LATHROP — The weekend forecast? Look for a lot of snow down to 23 feet with dry snow tubing conditions.

Mt. Dell’Osso is open today and Sunday – as well as next Friday, Saturday, and Sunday – before closing down for the season.

Roughly 30,000 people have hit the slopes often reaching speeds up to 25 mph while taking dozens of trips over 90-minute sessions since the week before Thanksgiving when manmade snow first made snow tubing in the Northern San Joaquin Valley possible.

“About 75 percent of the people have been coming from the Bay Area,” noted Susan Dell’Osso who along with husband Ron own and operate the manmade snow tubing mountain and adjoining seasonal attractions.

A large number of those are “drop by” snow tubers who see Mt. Dell’Osso from Interstate 5 on their way to the Sierra on Friday and then drop back during their return trip home on Sunday.

This was the inaugural season for snow tubing. It follows on the heels of the Pumpkin Maze attractions that were opened during October and drew a record 137,000 visitors.

It was also the first year for Christmas on the Farm that included 500 various light displays. The snow tubing and zip line stayed open after the holidays ended. The last day for snow tubing and zip lines is on Sunday, Feb. 28.

The snow tubing hill at Dell’Osso Farms is available today and next Saturday during 90-minute session with the first starting at 10 a.m. and the last at 8 p.m. The last two remaining Sundays have sessions from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The slopes are also open next Friday with the first tubing at 4 p.m. and the last sessions at 6 p.m. Zip lines are only open Saturdays and Sundays.

The cost is $15 for a 90-minute session. Snow tubing sessions are scheduled in two-hour blocks. It’s recommended you show up 15 to 30 minutes ahead of time. Reservations can be made on-line by going to www.holidaysonthefarm.com or you can purchase onsite. Tubes are provided. It is open rain or shine thanks to the roof structure.
