The Lathrop United soccer team had a successful first showing in its under-19 Jim Frazier League opener Saturday at Northgate Park.

Hairo Silva netted three goals in two games as Lathrop United are off to a 1-0-1 start. The team comprising of Lathrop High boys soccer players first knocked off Tuolumne 4-2 behind Silva’s first two goals. Jose Castellanos and Alexis Palomares added one apiece.

Lathrop United continued its surge at the start of the second game, leading by three goals at halftime before settling for a 3-3 tie. Lisandro Alvarez and Palomares tallied a goal apiece with Silva striking once again.

“We got tired and momentum shifted to Modesto on an error that resulted in a goal,” Lathrop coach Alfredo Reynaga said. “Even though we let one get away I was proud of the look and body language on this young team. They were upset and knew they let one get away. Proud of the overall effort.”

Lathrop next takes on two Manteca teams this Saturday.
